Well, this month is coming at me fast and I’m trying to close it out by getting a new social media account up and running. As of *checks watch* about two hours ago, I am the proud new owner of a Mastodon account. There are bits I like and bits I don’t, and my reach there is thus far pretty small. For now, I’m going to focus on author community and writing on that account and Twitter will remain my main social media platform.
I’d forgotten what it was like to start a new platform, building from (almost) scratch. To be fair, I already had things like my bio and graphics that could just be transferred over, and a handful of friends moving onto the platform at the same time. The Romancelandia pool on Mastodon is small and broken up, though. The “community” setup makes it a little harder to search for other Romance writers, so I’m stalking the follower lists of my mutuals.
I have a bit of a to-do list going. I still need to overhaul this site, add all my social media links. Mastodon needs updated graphics and some network building. And oh, yeah, I have books to get written, too. All of this is being put on hold a week because I’m making a sudden and unplanned trip to see Kid3 this week. Kid1 gets to hold down the fort here. Let’s see how the man-child’s housekeeping skills hold up over a week alone. (I’m scared.)
While I’m gone, I will be taking notebooks and working on outlining books on my plot bunny list, as well as taking my computer to work on big Bobby Ray and the Werebear Rescue Rangers series.
But I’m supposed to be discussing social media, aren’t I?
You can still follow me as @voireylinger on Twitter. I have no intention of leaving the platform any time soon.
You can now follow me on Mastodon as @VoireyLinger as well.
I’m considering other platforms as a minor presence, but honestly, I don’t want to get overly invested in multiple platforms. I’d rather spend my time writing and taking care of me.
